Regent Park Focus Media Arts Center

Regent Park Focus is a non-for-profit organization that helps "at risk youths" get involved in using a wide range of media arts to avoid drugs, gangs and violent activities. This is where I am sometimes refered to as the Jack of All Trades. I am one of the staff and instructors at this facility of studios. Regent Park Focus is home to various studios: Catch Da Flava Radio, Catch Da Flava Newspaper, RPTV (Regent Park TV), Studio for Photography Arts, Focus Photo Gallery and the Underground Recording Studio for Music.

Catch Da Flava Radio on CKLN 88.1FM

On March 1st, 2004 I first started hosting for the first time on a Catch Da Flava segment on CKLN88.1FM, talking about the violence that was taking place in the Malvern community at the time. I continued to host the radio show up until 2005; where as I took a new rule on the radio show as the radio show technician and archiver. On very rare occasions, I co-host the radio show, so if you tune into our show each Tuesday be sure to check us out! We are a "word of mouth radio show".

Mind you, Catch Da Flava Radio broadcasts live from Regent Park Focus and not from the Ryerson University. My involvement on CKLN88.1FM is strickly for Catch Da Flava's 30min air-time on Tuesdays. So if you would like to attend or take part in the radio show be sure to contact as at the Catch Da Flava website or just come by and pay a visit.

Catch Da Flava Newspaper

I write for a local community newspaper / magazine that prints over 3, 000 copies and distributes them all across the city of Toronto bi-monthly. I've been a Catch Da Flava writer since 2004. Another interesting fact about my involvement with the newspaper is that i was on a cover of the newspaper dating back in 1997.

If you would also like to write for the Catch Da Flava Newspaper, check out the Catch Da Flava website for submission info. We are in need of writers. It's a great opportunity to get your article published and distributed to thousands of readers.

EYE Video

EYE Video was once the video program for Regent Park Focus. Its purpose was for its participates to produce positive videos about drug prevention for the most part. In this production company we make PSA's (public service announcements) and sometimes documentaries about issues that are common in the city. I occasionally help with scripts, storyboards and generally always help with the filming of the projects for EYE Video.

RPTV

RPTV, which is the acronym for Regent Park TV, is an internet television show (podcast) that produces news shows, short documentaries and drama peices that surround issues that concerns youth. RPTV has received considerable media coverage by various media sources; such as the Toronto Star, Global TV, FUSE Magazine, CBC, TVO and OMNI; just to name a few. My tasks at RPTV are to help with just about everything that has to do with the segments that go on it. I help with the pre-production, production and post-production -- meaning that i help write up a list of interviews or help the youths create scripts then go out and help shoot the material; which is then brought back to the studio for editing.
